TVLine is reporting that Gaius Charles is joining Grey’s Anatomy‘s ninth season for a recurring arc. Charles is best known for his role as Smash Williams during the first three seasons of the highly-acclaimed drama Friday Night Lights, and though not much is known about his character or role, TVLine points out that it is safe to assume that Charles will most likely be playing a new young doctor at Seattle Grace Mercy West. Charles’ casting serves as the first confirmation of the continuing swirling rumors that the series is looking to add several new smaller guest roles in the wake of both Chyler Leigh and Kim Raver’s departures at the end of Grey’s Anatomy‘s eighth season.
