Could “Private Practice: The Music Event” Be Coming Soon?

TVGuide.com posted a new interview with Private Practice creator Shonda Rhimes, where the mastermind teased further details as to what could be coming up for the doctors of Seaside Wellness in the new season of the series. Among those teases, Rhimes pondered the possibility of doing a musical episode of Private Practice, an idea she has been tossing around since the Grey’s Anatomy “music event” two years ago. Though the episode was met with mixed reactions from audiences and critics alike, Rhimes says “the musical talent on Private Practice is equally stunning.”
Though Rhimes won’t confirm whether or not a musical episode of the series will actually happen, it stands to reason that it will take place in a season that Rhimes herself has described as “a no-holds-barred, all-bets-off season.” The episode would also be a perfect way to lure back Tony-winner Audra McDonald to the series after her character, Naomi Bennett, was written out at the end of the fourth season in order to allow McDonald to spend more time with her family. The cast also includes Rent alum Taye Diggs, Paul Adelstein (who is part of his own band), and Amy Brenneman, who Rhimes says “shakes a good tambourine.” Rhimes does opine that series star Kate Walsh can sing but doesn’t want to, and that she is curious to know what talents new cast addition Benjamin Bratt has.
Continuing to tease, Rhimes adds that the upcoming season – which could very likely end up being the final for the series – will include “a death, some babies, a likely return of a favorite, and there could possibly be a wedding.”

How do you feel about the idea of a musical episode of Private Practice? Who could be the one dying, and could Addison’s brother Archer be the returning favorite? And who’s going to be getting married and having babies?
