I love Grey’s Anatomy. I always have and always will, but it is really tough to love a show that is so scrutinized by the media. The drama never, ever stops. Even if there isn’t any real drama to talk about. It never. Freaking. Stops. As such, here we go again with more Grey’s drama (can’t our beloved actors just keep their mouths shut!). According to both Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly and Kristin Dos Santos at E! Online (and other places as well, I’m sure), James Pickens Jr. (who we all know as The Chief) confirmed that both Katherine Heigl (Izzie) and TR Knight (George) were leaving the show. However, an insider says that while there may be truth to this story, there’s no way that Pickens could know because nothing final has been decided. The insider says that the actors have not been released from their contracts (although both have asked to be) and everything has yet to be decided by the network. If you remember correctly, all of the principal actors were contracted for seven seasons, meaning they have two years left on their contracts. The insider says it is looking likely that ABC will finally give in and release TR and Katie from their contracts and they will leave the series at the end of the current season. However, something ABC and Shonda want to try and do is go ahead and work in conditions on making return guest appearances, something that is currently delaying the process somewhat.
But what do you all think of a George and Izzie-less Grey’s? I’ll miss these characters so much, but it won’t be the end of the show for me. If nothing else, it’ll free up more time for the other characters (provided Shonda doesn’t replace them with new characters, a la the gaps that have been getting filled that were left by Burke, Hahn, and Addison).
